Senso makes it possible to fully customise the violation logging process. You can use the full suite of pre-built Senso keyword libraries – continually developed and refined by our Safeguarding team – or you can choose to only log violations when certain specific keywords are typed. It all depends on your needs.

Once you have your Logging Policy set up, you can then choose to customise the policy to suit your requirements. If you are concerned about a large number of keyword violations presenting your safeguarding staff with a lot of information, you can disable the keyword libraries you prefer not to use, and you can create your own custom library to only return violations on a select number of keywords of your choosing. Using the groups function, you can also ensure that the logging policy is only applied to specific devices and users.

To customise which keyword libraries are enabled, simply locate your Logging Policy within the web console, click Edit, and then tick or untick the available detection libraries until you are satisfied with your selection. Click Confirm and these changes will be saved.

Creating your own custom libraries is also straightforward:

In the Admin Portal, select Detection Libraries from the list on the left-hand side. Then click on the green + icon to create a new library.

Next, name your library and check the Enable box to activate. The Library Visibility tab limits the access site users have to view/modify libraries. Click Confirm to add the library.

Once created, your library should appear in the list. Choose Edit next to the name of the library. 

Click the Green + icon to add items into the library.   

You will then be presented with a window for entering the information on a specific keyword. This can be a single word or a phrase. To achieve this we can use the context Keyword Detection within the library.

Keyword Detection: Detects and raises violations for typed phrases or words. No blocking will occur for this selection type

Let’s say you want to raise a violation whenever a student types the phrase stalking me. Enter this into the Phrase box and then choose how this keyword should be handled.

The Action drop-down menu allows you to set to either Block or Whitelist. Choose block. Checking the box Take Screenshot will trigger a screenshot of the keyword at the precise moment it is typed. 

The Severity drop-down menu allows you to set the level the keyword needs to be listed as. Urgent and Critical violations will trigger Email Alerts for specific safeguarding staff who have been elected to receive them.

Click Confirm to save changes. More keywords can then be added to the library in the same way.

Finally, you will need to enable this library on your logging policy in the Senso portal:

Finding the Logging and Blocking Policy

Logging and blocking policies can be set at any level. Typically, the policy would either be at the top level or at the site level. Alternatively, you may find it set on a group within the sites.

If you don't know where your logging and blocking policy is set, you can tick the device you are seeing this issue on and then click the passport. 

That should open a window for you that will show which policies are affecting the device and where they are.

Click Edit. Scroll to the bottom and then enable the library that you just created.

Click Confirm. Done!

Just as libraries can be selected and deselected, and just as custom keywords can be added to a keyword detection policy, it is also possible to specify that Senso does not pick up specific words. This is covered in our guide to Whitelisting.
